Parents,
Welcome to first grade!! One week down!! Can you believe it!? I think the week went very well and it was just delightful to get to know your little cutie!
It is incredibly important to me that you and I work together every day, every week, and every step along the way this year. Please expect weekly notes (like this one!) to come home every Monday. I will try (to the best of my ability!!) to update you with the happenings in our classroom and our school.
I am sooooo excited to get to know your son or daughter even more! I know they are incredible little people and I look forward to teaching and loving them this year!!!
Things to note:
· The “Welcome to 1st Grade!” packet came home last week. This should have answered a lot of questions that you may have had, but I know you may still have more. No worries! Call, email, or stop by any time!! Also, “Back to School Night” is next Tuesday, August 21st. Please plan to come! I will be going over our classroom routines and expectations in more detail!
· Our beginning of the year homework started coming home last week. This homework will continue until we have reviewed each letter. Please keep at this homework! The letter homework can be monotonous to some students, however, I have found that the repetitive nature of the homework gives a certain confidence to your child that lasts through more difficult work that is to come and the review they get is invaluable. Between this homework and what we do during the day at school, they will be more than ready to read once we are done with letter review!
· Inside your child’s purple folder is a salmon-colored “Notes” sheet. I am sure you saw it this last week. This paper should stay in your child’s folder throughout the year, as I often jot notes to you and want to have a place where we both get used to looking. If you have any questions, concerns, or things you want to make me aware of…this is the place to do it!!
· A blue reading log is coming home this week. Please find a time to read to your child as a part of the nightly homework routine. If you feel that your child is capable, they may be ready to read to you! Either way works for me!!! The paper books that come home for letter practice may be used for their reading log! This blue reading log will come home almost every week for the rest of the year! HAPPY READING!!!
· If you have already sent in your child’s class supplies and class fee – THANK YOU! If you haven’t, please try to do so. Also, if you need another supply list, please let me know and I will slip one into your child’s folder. If this is something that is not financially possible for your family right now, I totally understand! Please just jot me a note, so I know. Thank you so much!
· Have you filled out your WCSD volunteer form for the year?? If not, please ask for one or plan to fill one out at “Back to School Night!”
· Our Annual Tie-Dye event is coming!! Look for more information to come home soon! (FYI…Our class will be tie-dying on Tuesday, August 28th.)
· Fundraising Kick-off assembly is this week. Look for this info. as well!
· I will be setting up a more formal volunteer schedule some time after “Back to School Night,” however, if any of you would like to do a little bit of copying, collating, etc., in the meantime, please let me know. It always seems like this part of my job is never-ending! =) Thank you.
