Monday, December 19, 2011

Parents,

Can’t believe it is already time for another short break!  Wow!  That went by fast!!!
I’m sure your house is buzzing with many signs of Christmas…mine is!  I can’t wait to celebrate with my own family and I am sure you are anxious to spend time with yours as well.  Enjoy your family time over the next two weeks!
As my final note for 2011, let me say…what a gift your first grader is!  The first few months of first grade have been incredibly enjoyable for me!  Your first grader is growing and changing right before our eyes!  They are sweet, kind, bright, independent, and growing more so every single day!  Thank you for letting me be a part of their lives this school year!  They are MY incredible gift this year!!!

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!

 A Note from B-3!

Monday, December 12, 2011

Parents,

I have 19 little “elves” crafting like crazy in our “1st Grade Workshop!”  This truly is a wonderful time of the year!
Being gone for four weeks and then coming back to your first grader has been such a wonderful reminder to me that this little group of kiddos is amazing!  They grew a ton over break and are really showing off just how marvelous their brains really are!
Thank you again for working so hard during break!  Thirteen students completed their track-off packet!  Woohoo!  And 12 students passed the two lists that went home over break!  Awesome!

  • We started Math Facts last Monday!  Students did great during the first week!  Can’t wait to see how far they will go this year!!  If your child is having a hard time passing certain facts, please don’t hesitate to ask for a practice copy.  I will send one home.  You can make copies and practice at home.  Students will be proceeding at their own pace throughout this process.  Let me know if you have questions.

December 5th ~ Welcome Back!

 A Note from B-3!

Monday, December 5, 2011

Parents,

Welcome back!!!!!!  I sure hope that everyone is well-rested and relaxed after our fabulous four week break…I am!!!  During break, I celebrated a birthday, spent lots of time hanging out with my little ones (we did a ton of baking!!!), caught up on laundry, house-cleaning, and also took a short trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.  I have decided that when you live in the desert 365 days a year, that any trip to the ocean (even a short one) is like “food for the soul.”  It was awesome!  Time spent at the aquarium was wonderful, but even better was walking the tide pools with my family…SPECTACULAR!!
I can’t wait to hear stories from your little ones!  Perhaps you spent time with family, traveled to be with loved ones, or just laid low for a few weeks?  Whatever is was…glad your first grader is back!  I missed them a bunch!
We have three busy weeks before we get another short break.  Let’s work hard and do as much as we can!  The students and I will be trying to balance all our curriculum with a little crafting too!  From time to time, during the next few weeks, we will be painting with acrylic paint.  We will do our best to ensure that paint does not get on our clothes (acrylic paint is not as forgiving as the tempera paint we typically use), but please do not send your child in their/your favorite outfit if you are concerned.

Things to note:
  • The “Fleecing for Friends” event was wonderful this year!  Thank you to Ms. Analisa and Mrs. Lowery for helping to cut blankets.  Another another great big thank you to Ms. Analisa for helping at our tying event.  I could not have done it without you!  Our school made close to 150 blankets!  AMAZING!  We made enough blankets that some were taken to Kids Kottage, some went to local patients receiving chemo treatment at the Cancer Clinic, some went to the Renown Pediatric Emergency Room, and also to the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation.  Some of the blankets were made of tricky material that frayed when cut…these went to the Nevada Humane Society!  Thank you for being a part of something so important!  Great lesson for our children!!!
  • Santa’s Workshop (Penquin Patch Holiday Shoppe) is here!  Look for info. coming home today.
  • Santa Grams available in quad for $1.00.  Shirts with an inspiring message also available.  Three 5th grade boys were inspired by the Caughlin fires to help the Red Cross.  They are donating all of their $$ to help!
  • Our S.S.E.S. website has changed hands…here is the link again (same). http://www.washoecountyschools.org/spanishsprings/   The website might look a little different and some parts might not be working yet.  Please understand that this new website is a work in progress and might not have everything you are accustomed to accessing.  Because classroom links are not quite up yet…I have created a blog to post our weekly note.  I will ATTEMPT to keep this updated for you (if I am computer savvy enough!?).  Perhaps I will like it better and switch for next year.  Let me know what you think! mrsjacobs1stgrade.blogspot.com
  • Speaking of blogs…Ms. Walters also has created a blog for our school!  Check it out!  Add a comment!  otterupdates.blogspot.com
  • Track Break – Brain Work:
o   Track Off Packet-if returned completed…pizza party on Dec. 13th.
o   HFW – two lists passed on Dec. 8th …lunch with Mrs. Jacobs and ice cream sundaes on Dec. 14th.
§  I will be sending notes home ASAP letting you know the details for these rewards!  Look for them or just listen to your excited first grader tell you what they earned!!
  • Our Winter Party will be a “ride” on the Polar Express!  We will be hopping aboard the train on Wednesday, December 21st.  Students will be allowed to wear pajamas this day!  If you signed up to bring food, drinks, plates, etc., I will be contacting you soon!  I still need someone to pop some mini popcorn bags (pop – 1 min. each and then throw them in a garbage sack to pass out during movie) for the movie and also if you have a DVD of the Polar Express, we would love to borrow it!
  • I am collecting empty paper towel rolls for a math project!  Send them in!!
