 A Note from B-3!

Monday, April 16, 2012

Parents,

Welcome back…again!!!!  Hope everyone enjoyed the week with your darling first grader!!!  As always, with any time off, I very much enjoyed my “Joey and Drew time” and catching up on laundry!!

Things to note:
  • The fieldtrip is this Thursday, April 19th.  We will be headed to the high school to see their rendition of “Beauty and the Beast.”  Please make sure that you have returned the fieldtrip permission slip, along with the $8.00 fee.
o   REMEMBER THAT ALL STUDENTS WILL NEED A COLD LUNCH ON THIS DAY.
  • I, unexpectedly, had to leave school early on Friday to take my kiddo to the doctor and thus…never drew volunteer names for our fieldtrip this coming Thursday.  I apologize!  I am trying to double check volunteer forms in the office and will be writing notes home today if your name was drawn.  If I don’t send a note home, unfortunately, your name was not drawn.  (I will let you know, however, if things change and I need another volunteer.)
  • Yearbooks are now available for pre-order.  They are on sale through April 27th.  They are $16.00 cash/check (made out to S.S.E.S.) and will be delivered May 21st.
  • Our annual Jog-a-thon is coming up on May 17th!  Mrs. Bower, our P.E. teacher has asked us to ask you to encourage your first grader to do a little extra running to prepare for our big event.  During P.E., they are currently running or run/walking for approximately 9 minutes/1 time per week.  If you can, find a way or a reason to have them run at home.  I am also going to do the same here at school.
  • Please check my blog to see an online copy of our weekly notes while the school’s new website is under construction... mrsjacobs1stgrade.blogspot.com
  • Have you checked out Ms. Walter’s new blog yet??  Get on and check things out…add a comment!!!  Tell us what you think!!!  Do you love our school as much as we do!!  Let us know!! We care what you think!!! otterupdates.blogspot.com

 A Note from B-3!

Monday, April 2, 2012

Parents,

Welcome back!!!!  I hope everyone enjoyed the month off!  I missed all my 1st grade friends and can’t wait to get right back into the swing of things.  Can you believe we only have 2 ½ months left in first grade???  Me neither!!!!!

Help me to help your first grader…let’s push all the way to the end….lots of reading, lots of HFW list and spelling list practice, and lots of practice on basic math skills that have already been introduced (i.e. skip counting, counting coins, telling time to hour and half-hour or even 5-minute intervals if possible, etc.  Little tip: I have found this practice is most fun when it is natural…have your first tell you what time it is, have them count the coins in your pocket or the coins you get back as change, skip count while you are driving in the car, etc.).  Also, this is a great time of the year to expect just a bit more from your little writer!!  Let them record reading log books onto their weekly reading log, help write the shopping list or chore list, etc., encourage them to write a thank you letter or just a story from their brain!  They are quite amazing if you ask me!  Sometimes they just need a little push as they learn to really trust themselves and all they have learned this year!

Things to note:
  • I am proud of all your efforts to work in and complete our March Track-Off Packets and to practice the HFW that I sent home!!  I will make sure you know what rewards your child has earned!!  Notices will be coming home if your child has earned a pizza lunch on Thursday, April 5th or if they pass the two HFW lists for the ice cream sundaes on Friday, April 6th.
  • Art in Bloom is this Wednesday, April 4th from 6:00 – 7:30.  Come see your first grader’s art, bid on our classroom projects, and partake in the fun art projects we have planned for you.  You can even eat dinner at school!  What a fun, family night!!!  See the flyer for details!
  • Fieldtrip details:  We will be headed to the high school (Spanish Springs) on Thursday, April 19th to see their rendition of “Beauty and the Beast.”  Please see the attached fieldtrip permission slip and return it ASAP, along with the $8.00 fee.  Let me know if you are interested in joining us as a chaperone.  I will write your name down for our drawing.  (I will draw two names on Friday!)
  • Spring picture packets came home today.  Please read the enclosed information and return either the money (if you want to keep the pictures), the pictures (if you don’t want to keep the pictures), or some combination of both, to me by this Friday, April 6th.
  • Yearbooks are now available for pre-order.  They are on sale now through April 27th.  They are $16.00 cash/check (made out to S.S.E.S.) and will be delivered May 21st.  See information coming home soon!

  • I am now collecting household items that resemble 3-D shapes for our classroom Shapes Museum.  Below I have included a list of shapes and possible items that could be sent in.  If you have something that will work…please send it in! It will be returned in a few weeks.
