Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Parents,

Long weekends always feel so good!  An extra day to rest and catch up at home!  I hope everyone enjoyed an extra day with your darling first grader!

Things to note:

  • In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd, we will be enjoying Dr. Seuss books for our next author study over the next three weeks.  He has a fun website for children, if you or your child are interested in checking out more information about Dr. Seuss or perhaps just enjoying more Dr. Seuss fun!
  • Track off packets and two weeks of HFW practice will be prepared for all students and sent home the week of track off.  If track-off packet gets completed…your first grader can earn a pizza lunch on Thursday, April 5th.  If they pass the two HFW lists that come home with their packet, they can earn lunch in the classroom and ice cream sundaes on Friday, April 6th.
  • Please check my blog to see an online copy of our weekly notes while the school’s new website is under construction... mrsjacobs1stgrade.blogspot.com

February 13, 2012 - Happy V-Day!!

 A Note from B-3!

Monday, February 13, 2012

Parents,

Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day!  I decided that I am awfully lucky!  I have three amazing Valentines at my own house AND 19 adorable Valentines here at school!  Thank you for letting me teach your sweethearts this year!  I truly love and adore each one!!!

Things to note:
  • CORRECTION:  The family Valentine’s dance is tonight!  Not the 14th as it was written the last few weeks in the weekly note.  I apologize and hope that my error did not cause any inconveniences for you and your family.
  • Valentine Grams can still be filled out and sent in.  ($1.00 for each gram)  On Valentine’s Day, a smelly Smencil and your V-Day message will be delivered to the recipient of your choice!
  • Our Valentine’s Day Party is tomorrow, February 14th.  Please make sure that student valentines are filled out and brought to school tomorrow (if you haven’t already done so).  Thank you to those parents who have already brought in supplies for tomorrow’s party.  Please let me know ASAP if you cannot bring in the remainder of the supplies.  Our party will begin at approximately 12:30.  The events that have been planned are very simple and easy...receiving Valentine’s is usually exciting enough for my 1st grade friends!!! I do not believe that I will need any help, but you may feel free to stop in if you want to!
  • We have filled our “Compliment Jar!”  Yahoo!!!!!  We have worked hard all year to fill our jar!  We finally did it!  Since the beginning of the year, students have worked together to make good decisions in the classroom!  On Wednesday, February 15th, students will enjoy a movie of their choosing and ice cream floats!  Students voted to watch a Chipmunks movie (if you own one of these movies, I would love it if you could send it in!) and the permission slip will be coming home tonight.  Please look for it and send it in ASAP.  If you would rather your child not participate, an alternative will be available to them.  Let me know if you have any questions.
  • After some recent assessment in the classroom, your child’s spelling group may have changed.  In order to provide the most developmentally appropriate list of weekly spelling words for your child, spelling groups were adjusted and students were place in groups most appropriate for their current spelling development.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
  • Don’t forget the music performance is scheduled for Wednesday, February 29th  at 2:00.   Come grab a seat in the lunch room.  Please encourage your child to wear nice clothes on the day of our performance.
Seuss fun!
  • Track off packets and several weeks of HFW practice will be prepared for all students and sent home the week of track off.  Let me know if you are not interested in receiving a packet for your child.  Rewards and incentives for completing the track off packet/HFW are also in the works!

 A Note from B-3!

Monday, February 6, 2012

Parents,

Did you watch the Superbowl?  Did your team win?  Did you just enjoy the commercials?  Or perhaps just the snacks?  Maybe your t.v. wasn’t even on yesterday?  Whatever your pleasure…sure hope you had a great weekend with your first grader!!

Things to note:
  • This week I will begin an “Estimate Jar” in the classroom.  It is a one gallon jar that students and I will use to improve their number sense, estimating skills, as well as, problem solving skills and critical thinking skills.  Students who most accurately guess the number of items in the jar, will walk away with the contents of the jar!  That’s right!  This week your child may come home with one gallon worth of large marshmallows!!  (Who’s making Rice Crispy Treats this coming weekend!!?? Heehee!!!)  If you are interested in donating, please donate any items of your choice for our jar.  Remember, the student who guesses the closest number will get to keep the items that you have donated.  Good items to estimate might include anything that comes in a large quantity without a large price (i.e. toy army men, whiffle golf balls, feathers, pom poms, etc.).  If interested, please send items in at your convenience.
  • Winterfest and Science Fair are tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 7th!  Plan to come back to school, eat dinner, look at science fair projects, visit the bookfair, and enjoy all the science activities.  Should be a fun time!!!
  • Our school bookfair continues through Wednesday, February 8th.  You can come shop with your child before or after school or you can still send money in with your child to do their shopping during the day.
  • Don’t forget the music performance is scheduled for Wednesday, February 29th  at 2:00.   Come grab a seat in the lunch room.  Please encourage your child to wear nice clothes on the day of our performance.
  • Valentine Grams can still be filled out and sent in.  ($1.00 for each gram)  On Valentine’s Day, a smelly Smencil and your V-Day message will be delivered to the recipient of your choice!
  • Student Valentines can be filled out and brought to school any time before our party on Tuesday, February 14th.   Big thanks to those parents who are able to send in supplies! =)
  • Track off packets will be prepared for all students and sent home the week of track off.  Let me know if you are not interested in receiving a packet for your child.
