 A Note from B-3!

Monday, February 6, 2012

Parents,

Did you watch the Superbowl?  Did your team win?  Did you just enjoy the commercials?  Or perhaps just the snacks?  Maybe your t.v. wasn’t even on yesterday?  Whatever your pleasure…sure hope you had a great weekend with your first grader!!

Things to note:
  • This week I will begin an “Estimate Jar” in the classroom.  It is a one gallon jar that students and I will use to improve their number sense, estimating skills, as well as, problem solving skills and critical thinking skills.  Students who most accurately guess the number of items in the jar, will walk away with the contents of the jar!  That’s right!  This week your child may come home with one gallon worth of large marshmallows!!  (Who’s making Rice Crispy Treats this coming weekend!!?? Heehee!!!)  If you are interested in donating, please donate any items of your choice for our jar.  Remember, the student who guesses the closest number will get to keep the items that you have donated.  Good items to estimate might include anything that comes in a large quantity without a large price (i.e. toy army men, whiffle golf balls, feathers, pom poms, etc.).  If interested, please send items in at your convenience.
  • Winterfest and Science Fair are tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 7th!  Plan to come back to school, eat dinner, look at science fair projects, visit the bookfair, and enjoy all the science activities.  Should be a fun time!!!
  • Our school bookfair continues through Wednesday, February 8th.  You can come shop with your child before or after school or you can still send money in with your child to do their shopping during the day.
  • Don’t forget the music performance is scheduled for Wednesday, February 29th  at 2:00.   Come grab a seat in the lunch room.  Please encourage your child to wear nice clothes on the day of our performance.
  • Valentine Grams can still be filled out and sent in.  ($1.00 for each gram)  On Valentine’s Day, a smelly Smencil and your V-Day message will be delivered to the recipient of your choice!
  • Student Valentines can be filled out and brought to school any time before our party on Tuesday, February 14th.   Big thanks to those parents who are able to send in supplies! =)
  • Track off packets will be prepared for all students and sent home the week of track off.  Let me know if you are not interested in receiving a packet for your child.
  • Please check my blog to see an online copy of our weekly notes while the school’s new website is under construction... mrsjacobs1stgrade.blogspot.com
  • Have you checked out Ms. Walter’s new blog yet??  Get on and check things out…add a comment!!!  Tell us what you think!!!  otterupdates.blogspot.com
