Parents,
Welcome back!!!!!! I sure hope that everyone is well-rested and relaxed after our fabulous four week break…I am!!! During break, I celebrated a birthday, spent lots of time hanging out with my little ones (we did a ton of baking!!!), caught up on laundry, house-cleaning, and also took a short trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I have decided that when you live in the desert 365 days a year, that any trip to the ocean (even a short one) is like “food for the soul.” It was awesome! Time spent at the aquarium was wonderful, but even better was walking the tide pools with my family…SPECTACULAR!!
I can’t wait to hear stories from your little ones! Perhaps you spent time with family, traveled to be with loved ones, or just laid low for a few weeks? Whatever is was…glad your first grader is back! I missed them a bunch!
We have three busy weeks before we get another short break. Let’s work hard and do as much as we can! The students and I will be trying to balance all our curriculum with a little crafting too! From time to time, during the next few weeks, we will be painting with acrylic paint. We will do our best to ensure that paint does not get on our clothes (acrylic paint is not as forgiving as the tempera paint we typically use), but please do not send your child in their/your favorite outfit if you are concerned.
Things to note:
- The “Fleecing for Friends” event was wonderful this year! Thank you to Ms. Analisa and Mrs. Lowery for helping to cut blankets. Another another great big thank you to Ms. Analisa for helping at our tying event. I could not have done it without you! Our school made close to 150 blankets! AMAZING! We made enough blankets that some were taken to Kids Kottage, some went to local patients receiving chemo treatment at the Cancer Clinic, some went to the Renown Pediatric Emergency Room, and also to the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. Some of the blankets were made of tricky material that frayed when cut…these went to the Nevada Humane Society! Thank you for being a part of something so important! Great lesson for our children!!!
- Santa’s Workshop (Penquin Patch Holiday Shoppe) is here! Look for info. coming home today.
- Santa Grams available in quad for $1.00. Shirts with an inspiring message also available. Three 5th grade boys were inspired by the Caughlin fires to help the Red Cross. They are donating all of their $$ to help!
- Our S.S.E.S. website has changed hands…here is the link again (same). http://www.washoecountyschools.org/spanishsprings/ The website might look a little different and some parts might not be working yet. Please understand that this new website is a work in progress and might not have everything you are accustomed to accessing. Because classroom links are not quite up yet…I have created a blog to post our weekly note. I will ATTEMPT to keep this updated for you (if I am computer savvy enough!?). Perhaps I will like it better and switch for next year. Let me know what you think! mrsjacobs1stgrade.blogspot.com
- Speaking of blogs…Ms. Walters also has created a blog for our school! Check it out! Add a comment! otterupdates.blogspot.com
