MLK, Jr. ~ January 17, 2012

 A Note from B-3!

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Parents,

Your first graders and I talked a lot about the reason for our extra day off this week.  I hope some of you were or are able to continue that conversation at home.  Martin Luther King, Jr. was a brave and courageous individual that stood up for what was right and just in this world.  He fought peacefully, but demanded that ALL were deserving of the same rights.  M.L.K., Jr. Day may have passed but please continue to remind your first grader to be brave, courageous, and stand up for what is right!  M.L.K., Jr.’s life is always shocking to little ones!  It is hard for them to believe that people were treated SO poorly and it is always hard to believe that he was SO brave.  You never know…your first grader may be the next great activist and prominent leader to change the world!

Things to note:
  • Just before break, a packet went home explaining the upcoming school-wide Science Fair on February 7th.  Please make sure that you have read through that packet or that you look for that information on the school website!  Please think about creating a science fair project with your first grader.  They can be very simple or complex…you decide!  It is a wonderful way to engage in real learning with your child!  Let me know if you need more information or if I can help you in any way!
  • I am already planning away on our upcoming Valentine’s Party.  I did not have a parent sign up to organize it, so I will be taking care of the organizing myself.  I  will be planning a fun but simple party.  I have several parents already signed up to bring in supplies….but if you think you might also be available to bring in supplies…let me know.  I will be in touch to let you know what we will need! =)  FYI…our party will be held in the afternoon on Tuesday, February 14.
  • The school-wide book fair is quickly approaching!  Mrs. Pawliszyn (our librarian) is looking for parents willing to volunteer in the library during this time.  She needs help with registers, organizing, helping students to buy books, etc.  Please email her if you can donate some of your time!  It helps so much!!!
